Behind the Scenes of a Newborn Photography Session in Gonzales, Louisiana

There's a whole lot more happening during a newborn session than what you see in the finished photographs...

Behind every sleepy pose and tiny detail are gentle hands, lots of patience, and sometimes a little teamwork from mom and dad. After more than 14 years of photographing newborns, I've learned that no two babies are alike, and that's perfectly okay! Some need a little extra snuggling, some need a feeding break, and some just need us to slow down for a minute.

Today, I'm taking you behind the scenes of my newborn photography studio in Gonzales, Louisiana, to show you what these sessions really look like ... and why I wouldn't have it any other way.

Every Baby Sets the Pace

One thing I've learned over the years is that newborns have their own little agendas ... and they don't particularly care what I have planned!

Some babies settle right into a pose, while others need a little more time, a feeding break, or a few extra snuggles. And that's okay.

I never want a mama to feel like her baby needs to perform for the camera. My job is to work around your little one, not the other way around.

Sometimes the sweetest photographs happen when we simply slow down.

Those Tiny Details Matter

If you've ever watched me work with a newborn, you know I can spend quite a bit of time adjusting one tiny hand or moving a little finger into place.

And there's a reason for that...

Newborn photography isn't just about getting a baby to sleep and taking a pretty picture. It's about making sure they're comfortable, properly supported, and safe throughout the entire session.

Sometimes that means changing my original plan. Sometimes it means asking mom, dad, or my assistant to lend an extra hand.

After more than 14 years of photographing newborns, I've learned that the photograph is never more important than the little person in it.

It's a Family Affair

One of my favorite things about newborn sessions is watching the whole family get involved.

Sometimes that means dad lending a hand, mom sneaking in for one more snuggle, or big brother and big sister getting their first little taste of being in front of my camera with the newest family member.

And sometimes it means everyone working together to get that one photograph!

I love those moments because, years from now, these babies won't just see what they looked like when they were tiny ... they'll see how very loved they were from the beginning.

More Than Just Pretty Pictures

At the end of the day, my goal isn't just to send you home with beautiful photographs.

I want you to remember that you were able to relax, that your baby was cared for, and that you didn't have to worry about every little detail.

Those first few weeks with a newborn can feel like a blur ... and before you know it, those tiny fingers, sleepy stretches, and little newborn expressions have already started changing.

That's why I love what I do. I get to preserve a little piece of a season that never seems to last long enough.

If you're expecting a little one and looking for a newborn photographer in Gonzales, Baton Rouge, or the surrounding South Louisiana area, I'd love to help you remember these days.
